Fire and ice - the perfect combination
February is here and along with it came the ice. State College shut down for the most part today due to the ice storm that came through last night... and stayed on through most of the day. I'd heard rumor of it coming so I kept my schedule open so there wouldn't be a reason I'd have to try to leave today - and I'm still wearing my jammies while I sit in front of the fire and enjoy some sketch time.

I actually spent the morning bidding on freelance jobs and looking around at the jobs that were offered on other sites. I didn't find a whole lot and by noon I was done. Really. I'd exhausted what I knew to do and I still had half a day left! And that's when it hit me... I could take my Sabbath!
I'd missed having my Sabbath this Sunday because of the internet emergency that I came home to, but I wasn't about to let this pass me by. I grabbed a dvd, made some lunch and hunkered down for a restful afternoon... and then the email came. I had work to do. So much for taking the afternoon off! Honestly, having the work is a blessing, it was an answer to prayer, and it was something I needed to do today... but I was reminded again how important my weekly Sabbath is. I'm not missing it this weekend!
Don't worry, the rest of the afternoon wasn't too busy. Kash still managed to get me to throw her mouse for her to fetch (her new favorite game - who knew my cat would finally get the hang of "fetch"?!?) and I finished early enough that I was able to find a little "sketch time" in front of the fire. All in all a pretty satisfying day.

This is a drawing I did this evening. It didn't turn out anything like I'd planned, but some of my best stuff comes that way. The inspiration was Titus' idea to have a team of cats pull a sled to take him into State College. (There are enough cats in this neighborhood to make that idea almost plausible.) I started drawing and what I got instead was today's game of fetch set in today's snowy/icy weather.
