A Total Eclipse of the... Moon

The sky was clear and I was able to see the lunar eclipse last night!
I remember as a little kid staying up late one night.  We sat on lawn chairs in the front yard and piled blankets on ourselves to keep warm as we watched the Earth get between the sun and the moon.  It was a very exciting time (because we got to stay up past our bedtime) and though I seem to remember it being a little anti-climactic, I was still pretty pumped to see another lunar eclipse last night.

Because it had been such a big deal when I was a kid, I figured it must be one of those rare things that a person only gets to see once or twice in a lifetime... I was wrong.  I checked out NASA's web site and found out that these things pretty much happen two or three times a year.  They're not always total eclipses like last night, but we did get two of them last year - during a warmer time of year no less.  I guess Mom was just really good and hyping the event!

It was a good time last night though.  I watched part of the eclipse downtown with Robbie and then I made my way to the house (and my camera) for the last of it.  As I stood in the cold under the clear sky, I was reminded again of the night time walks I used to take in DeWitt.  I think I'm due for another one once the weather warms up a little...  sometimes it's nice to remember how small we are in the whole scope of things.

I also saw a shooting star!  I'll let you know if I get my wish...
