Anyone With an Empty Museum?
I’d intended to post an entry on here last night, but my day went in a decidedly busy direction and I found myself coming home late and exhausted. Now that the posts from my previous blog are becoming more spaced out, I have to actually come up with something new to say here… but I’m not sure why it’s a challenge since I was good about posting at least every other day when I was on the road. I guess it’s just a matter of getting back into the habit.
There’s a lot of different directions my mind is going in right now. I don’t know if I’ll be able to pin it down to something articulate… buthere goes:
I was listening to a sermon today that talked about what “worship” is: to truly live. To live life to the fullest – seizing the opportunities that come, becoming both tired and energized and ending up hungry for more of the same. Sometimes we can get a taste of that at church but God intends so much more for us. He desires us to live our lives in a way that we are constantly worshiping and subsequently constantly living. And I think that’s what my art can be for me… a way to seize a part of the divine.
Don’t get me wrong – I don’t think I need to create “Christian” art in order to worship God with my work. I was reading this morning about Charles Schutlz’ interest in using Peanuts as a means of sharing the gospel. He recognized that he couldn’t hit people over the head with a Bible in every strip because he’d lose readers faster than he’d get his message out. Instead, he created a comic strip with quality humor that occasionally dealt with concepts that had a higher meaning. His goal was to do the best that he could in the place that God had put him… and that happened tobe in front of a comic strip.
… which also happens to be where He’s put me on occasion!
It’s a crazy thought – if I do what I was created to do, and I do it to the best of my ability, God is pleased and our relationship is strengthened.
“Worship the Lord with gladness; come before him with joyful songs.” – Psalm 100:2
