Tales... One Year Later

It's been just over a year since I accomplished one of the highlights of my professional career: I became a published book illustrator.

No, I still haven’t managed to navigate the difficult path to children’s book illustration, but this was an even more interesting (and sometimes more challenging) first book as the subject matter was a little (not a lot) more mature and the art style was very specific.  Particularly in light of the fact that I’m trying to find a job and this is a great piece to my resume, I thought I’d revisit this exciting project that I’m so glad to have been a part of:

While my hope is that people will be amazed at the artwork that’s sprinkled throughout the book, it’s hard to resist reading what inspired the images… and some of it is pretty ridiculous.  This is a collection of snapshots of Keegan's high school career and in it he recounts adventures of bathroom competition, sliding naked across the locker room floor, streaking across the football field during a game… let’s face it, this kid spent a lot of time with his pants down!  As one reviewer wrote: “He may not have been the classiest of clowns, but his stories shine in both the hilarity of the event and the skill with which they are retold.”

Despite the silliness of the situations, you can't help rooting for our hero in the long run - particularly as he consistently makes his biggest fumbles in front of (and often to the detriment of) the hottest girl in school.  While some of the topics could make the reader squirm, Keegan manages to keep it clean - and sometimes there's even a moral!

Amazon is still in need of a review for this book and I guarantee you’ll get a chuckle when you read it.  Besides, I want this book to sell well so there will be demand for a sequel – and I can only imagine what he'll be able to tell about his college experience!

I absolutely cannot believe it has been a year already... but even moreso that I have yet to read this book. Ever since you mentioned you were working on it I have been excited and wanted to own a copy, so now that you have reminded me of it, I am going to have to go actually get it!!
