Same Show, Different Queen
I recently posted a photo of a painting I did as part of the backdrop to Young Actors Theatre's production of "Alice in Wonderland." Since I helped out, I was rewarded with a free ticket to see the show and I went this weekend. It was a very energetic rendition with a lot of talented kids... and I confess that watching it made me long for the stage again.

I don't know if it was part of the original story or not*, but this version had two queens in addition to the Queen of Hearts - the Red Queen and the White Queen**. Watching them perform inspired me to do the following drawing:
*Because I've never actually read the book - all my knowledge comes from the Disney adaptation... shame on me!
**I happen to know the director is a comic book nerd... is this an homage to all things X-Men or am I really that lame for not knowing the original Lewis Carroll literary reference?

(No, the girl playing the part didn't actually look like this, but I've heard she's hip enough to recognize a compliment when she sees it.)
I also looked at a children's book this weekend and that inspired the style I used to illustrate and color it. Now maybe this drawing will help me on my quest to be a children's book illustrator***!
***Because there aren't enough children's books out there featuring anorexic goth girls... what a role model!
