It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like... Winter...
Somehow, my boss was able to talk me into coming to work this morning* - despite the snow that fell overnight and continues to fall this morning.

*Not only was she able to talk me into coming into work - she was also able to get me to dress up in my best for our bi-monthly board meeting. The fact that I'm in a dress shirt, dress slacks and nice shoes gives the full effect of this story.
When I got to my car - parked in the street in front of my building - I had to trudge through snow up to my calves**. Fortunately I remembered where I'd parked the night before because all I saw was a line of identical white mounds... I got in and started it up (good sign) and then sat there. There was too much snow on the ground for me to walk all the way around cleaning it off so I came up with the brilliant idea to open the windows and clear it from the inside***!
**That makes wet dress pants and socks as the snow fell into my shoes... grrr...***"Brilliant" only because it kept more snow from getting into my shoes. The downside to this plan was that the snow came in the windows and went down the sleeves of my coat - there goes the dress shirt!
After rocking the car for about fifteen minutes, I was finally able to coax it onto the plowed part of the street and I was on my way! I had a hard time getting momentum back whenever a light would force me to stop, and at one point I missed a light completely because my car was just stuck,**** but I finally made it to work about 40 minutes after I left my apartment.
****Thankfully, a lady (yes, a lady.. no pride here!) in a passing car rolled her window down to give me some pointers - she must've noticed the car with the foot of snow on it's hood and roof and realized I was pretty clueless about how to manage a car in the winter. It's been awhile since I've had to drive in that kind of snow.
Just to give you a clue about what it looks like, here's a picture I took from my office window when I arrived:

The funny thing is that I've been telling everyone that Indianapolis doesn't seem to get much snow... I guess I just wasn't patient enough! (And despite my lack of desire to actually drive in it - and the fact that I'd hoped it would've been here six weeks earlier - I still think it's very pretty!)
On a side note: this is the anniversary of the first blog entry I posted on this web site. I suppose with the weather the way it is, it would be a great day to curl up inside and re-read the blog entries I've posted over the course of the last year...
... go ahead... I'll wait...
