Any Excuse to Buy New Shoes
For years I've talked about my desire to live in a place where I didn't need to have a car - I would just take public transportation or walk... it would be cheaper, good exercise, and give me an opportunity to meet new people. For the last couple of months my focus has shifted to the idea of trading my car in for a bike*, and just a few weeks ago I got my bike... kinda. I saw it, I sat on it, I paid for it... I just didn't have it.
*Particularly since Indy isn't known for it's public transportation... a bike is about the only other option - or a helicopter... but I suspect that wouldn't really save me any money.
Tonight I have it!

Since I saw it for the first time I've been sharing my excitement with a number of people, but due to my lack of bike knowledge the conversation usually ended with: "It's yellow!"**
**And it is! (I still have no bike knowledge.)
The bike couldn't have arrived at a better time, either. Because of my poor decision to drive to work last Wednesday (in a blizzard on unplowed roads), my car hasn't been the same***. I look forward to the weather turning and the snow disappearing so I can finally semi-retire my car and start biking... but first I have to buy new bike shoes****!
***It makes noises and shakes when I stop at lights so I have to put it in neutral to calm it down - it's actually kinda fun... I pretend I'm driving a stick shift! If only I could do something about the burning smell... hmmmm....****... and a fanny pack. Evidently, my friend Jessica and I have decided to outfit our "gang" in bedazzled fanny packs. The need for shoes is legit - for those who don't know about bikes, the pedals actually clip to my shoes... that's my bike knowledge.
Check back for updates about my biking escapades and my future involvement in Indy Critical Mass! (And for those who want to find them more quickly, I'm adding the "pedaling" category to chronicle those adventures.)

Holy Cow! I'm sooooo jealous of that bike!!!!! I want a sweet one now!
