Prayer for the Fires

Usually I'm glad I don't have a tv because I don't want to get consumed with all the "stuff" that it tries to promote.  My appreciation extends to the lack of news programming I'm subjected to since it's often upsetting and rarely unique... how many murders/kidnappings/rapes/wars do we need to see/hear about in a week*?  Unfortunately, the down side of such an existence is that I miss out on big things that affect the people I love.
*Don't get me wrong.  These are important things - my point is that they're too common and my heart is already burdened.  When I see the same stories over and over, it's like reopening the wounds time and time again... sometimes I need a little distance for healing.
One such item is the wildfires currently raging in Australia.  I'd not heard anything about them until this morning, but when I visited a couple of news search engines I realized they didn't have it featured either.   Maybe this is news to you, too?  The way I found out was through the email of a good friend of mine who currently lives in Australia and is directly affected.  Here's what she has to say:
Dear Friends & Family,

Today there is smoke everywhere. It has been such a horridly scary ordeal and my heart aches for all the people and animals that have been destroyed. I sure hope it won't be an arsonist act! The whole country/continent is mourning, such heavy sadness. The fires are still raging around us but so far they are a distance away from our area, but still close enough to be a concern, especially with the winds. We have had a reprieve from the horrendous heat but are told it will start up again on Monday. Please keep all of us in your prayers.

We have several friends who have loved ones that were burned and some who have survived but have lost everything! A few are ok but stuck between the different fires in their area. So many roads are closed and areas off limits due to it being viewed as a possible crime scene. Tons of people are still listed as missing and too many bodies are unidentifiable. Some people were actually visiting, vacationing, house sitting etc....so identities are complicated. The news isn't reporting and showing some of the things that are having to be done in putting animals down as well as some other issues. No one here has ever seen this sort of damage from fires and winds. The 12 years of drought and these unusual extreme heat and high winds have made it an all time worst ever.

Everyone is trying their best here to volunteer, get supplies and money together, offer housing, clothes, food etc..... Any of your prayers/healing energies are most welcomed!
As someone who's lived near out-of-control wildfires**, I know how scary it can be.  I'm fortunate that I've never lost anyone in such a fire, and I hope this one will be no exception.  As my friend indicates in her letter, they don't know the cause but there's speculation that it was intentionally set and someone has been arrested in connection.  So far, the death toll is 181 and is expected to exceed 200 with 7,000 left homeless.
**Once while living in Los Angeles and once while living in Orlando.
I encourage all of you to join me in praying for the people who are affected by this tragedy.  There's already a great loss but I pray that the continuing loss will be minimized and those who are suffering will find hope.  Peace of Christ...
