My Hearing Aid Must Be Broken

I'd intended to write a substantial blog tonight about one of a few things that are rattling around in my head, but instead I've been distracted because since before 5:30 this afternoon there has been a car alarm ringing.  I can't imagine I'm the only one who hears the constant "awoo, awoo, awoo, awoo, awoo" yet no one has done anything about it*...
*Obviously a useful alarm...
When I got home a little after 5:00, I noticed a car alarm sounding but I couldn't tell where the noise was coming from.  Since it wasn't in my immediate vicinity and I was in a hurry to eat dinner, get changed, and run back downtown, I thought I'd leave it be and trust that someone would take care of it**.  When I got home a little before 9:00, the alarm was still going - but this time it was getting darker and I'm not sure I'm up for wandering in uncharted territory after dark... so I went to my apartment to stew.  Seemed sensible at the time.
**I guess it's true what they say: "If you want something done right, you have to do it yourself!"
Now here I sit, after 11:00pm, wondering if I'm going to be able actually fall asleep when I lay down in bed or if the loop of the alarm (that sounds a lot like a police siren on repeat) will keep me awake thinking about how many other people are listening to this and doing nothing about it***.
***My only consolation is that there's been talk of a possible storm tonight.  Perhaps the sound of the wailing car will be drowned out by the sound of the thunder - what a choice!
... Maybe I should just sit up and blog, eh?

Actually, I know how much I need my sleep and I can't afford not to try - but in case you were wondering, some of the things I'm thinking about doing entries about include:
• Reflections on my friend's sermon about seclusion
• Loving Vs. Virginia
• The murder of George Tiller
You're welcome to get a head start and research these topics yourself, or stay tuned and I'll try to follow up with something soon... but hopefully not before morning!  *sigh*

Oh yeah - and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, DAD!!!
