Welcome to Miami

I spent the day in Miami and it's everything I've heard/expected* it would be... money, clothes, food, cars - it was a little overwhelming to take it all in!
*My expectations of Miami are based on Gloria Estefan, the Golden Girls and listening to Will Smith's "Miami" a few thousand times... but really, those seem to be spot-on descriptions!
The weather was on the cool side (it didn't even break 70!) but that didn't stop the locals from coming out in full force.  I loved seeing - and hearing - the ethnic variety and, though I couldn't understand the halloween costumes some people called style, I appreciated both the vivid colors and lush foliage as well as the industrial skyline as we were driving home at the end of the day**.  For the six hours we spent there, we didn't exceed about a mile radius and I suspect there's a lot more to this city that I have yet to see***... maybe another day.
**I really wish I'd gotten some pictures, but I'm not sure they would have done it justice.  Everything seemed to be lit by a darklight the way they glowed but it was the middle of a sunny afternoon!
***Actually, I KNOW there's a lot more I have to see as I saw a lot of it on the drive out of town.  Really, I think I could enjoy touring this town over time... with a camera...
For all it had to offer, I came away appreciating my mid-west upbringing.  I can't imagine the pressure the kids must feel growing up in a town that emphasizes appearance so much - even as an adult it was a little daunting to see so many bean pole women on six-inch heels and chiseled, hairless, shirtless men.

I'll take my "normal" midwestern people any day!
