The Season's Changing...
It seems to be my story for many years now that I can't stay in one place for too long. Since college, the longest I've lived anywhere was for two and a half years and my average is closer to two. To recap, I moved from Georgia to Michigan to Florida to Michigan to California to Michigan to California (and all over) to Georgia to Pennsylvania to Indiana... all within the last twelve years...
And here we go again.
For the last few months I've been engaged in a long distance relationship with someone who lives in Florida. We've done the best we could to make sure we've been able to see each other at least once a month, but the pressures of distance and the cost of travel have worn on us and since late last year we've been discussing what our options are.
The fact of the matter is that I'm the most easily transplanted. I've only been in Indy for a little over a year and a half so I don't have a lot of roots yet* and I'm able to do freelance art and design which is work I can do from any location. Florida, especially the southern area, tends to attract a high number of HIV+ people so there's likely to be a lot of opportunity for me to work in the HIV field, and the Art Institute has locations all over the country - two of them within a few miles of where I'll be living - so I'm hopeful I might be able to transfer. I've missed living near the ocean since I left California the last time and I'm at a point in my life when I'm looking forward to settling down and creating some permanence.
*Make no mistake, I don't have a lot of roots but the relationships I've formed are priceless. The hardest part about this will be saying good-bye to the people I've met and shared my life with here. On the plus side, I've already made plans to be back this summer and I know that the friendships that have started won't be ending anytime soon.
I will be moving to Hollywood, Florida, on March 26. At this point there are still a lot of details to be worked out and there's a lot I need to do to prepare**: I need to sell my Jeep, try to line up a job, finish my exit plan at the Athenaeum, finish the quarter at the Art Institute, complete some freelance projects, get rid of my furniture, pack/discard my stuff, and who-knows-how-many other projects that I'm not thinking about right now.
**I'll try to be specific about each of these things in due time, but if you want to help with any of it I'd be grateful!
As always, I'll keep people posted with updates here and I welcome and encourage all of your prayers. There's a lot of opportunity to be found in this and I look forward to what the coming season will bring.
Peace of Christ,
K.
