Enter Tweedlebug!
Facebook and I have had a hot and cold relationship for quite awhile now; on the one hand, I realize the value of being able to find and reconnect with people I've not spoken to in years and may never speak to in person again, but the flip side is that I will too often find myself looking at wedding pictures of people I don't know just because a guy I was in third grade with happened to be in the background of one of the best man's photos from a party he went to in college... yup, Facebook can be a real time-waster.

And sometimes, it can be a great treat!
Earlier this week I was doing my usual scan of the top news that shows up on my feed everyday and I saw that my friend Rachel was taking a trip... how nice for her. A little while later, she posted something about a cruise ship she was touring... lovely. And yet later* she posted something about being in South Florida... hmmm.
*Yes, this girl has the gift of gab - er, type...
Now I got inquisitive and shot her a message asking whereabouts in South Florida she might be and she told me she was in Miramar. That sounded familiar, but honestly a lot of places sound familiar that aren't really very close at all... so I decided to look it up. Ten miles away!
To give a brief background, Rachel (commonly known as "Tweedlebug") and I met while we were both serving on the ministry team for a Christian nightclub in Michigan. To hear her tell the story you would think we went for a long time without actually meeting and connecting but I seem to remember her always being around and over time we got closer and closer. We connected not only over our love of Jesus but also our interest in classic movie musicals and art. While the sum total of our time spent together is probably negligible at best, it was good quality time and she's the kind of person I can see again after being apart for four or five years and we're able to pick up right where we left off...
...Which brings us to last night. She was less than two miles away so we got together and enjoyed dinner at LeTub before we wandered the beach looking for the perfect sand** and nightcapped the evening with ice cream from Kilwins***.
**I'm not sure we found perfect sand, but then I'm not sure what perfect sand consists of. What I did learn is that it shouldn't be sand that dirty kids have been in and, while it's common to the local beaches, it shouldn't contain cigarette butts.
***Enough product placement for you?!?
Here's a picture from our reunion... I hope we don't have to wait nearly as long to get to see each other next time:
